How to Reset iPod Shuffle

Get your iPod Shuffle -- and your dance -- going again.

Nothing is more frustrating than your iPod Shuffle freezing mid-song when you are exercising or traveling. In most cases, the device can be reset without losing any of your data, much like "rebooting" your computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect your iPod Shuffle from your computer if it is connected. If it froze during an iTunes action, "eject" it from iTunes first.

    • 2

Turn your iPod Shuffle off by moving the switch to the "Off" position.

    • 3

Wait 5 seconds if you have a 1st or 2nd generation iPod, 10 seconds if you have a 3rd or 4th generation iPod.

    • 4

Turn the device back on. Place the device in the "Play" or "Shuffle" mode.

    • 5

Test your iPod to make sure it is reset and working again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid further damage to your iPod Shuffle -- do not attempt to remove the battery or take the device apart.
