Your Snowflake Steps

Paper snowflakes are a fun craft for children and adults during winter. A 3-D snowflake is a little more challenging than the standard flat snowflake. Look at the beginning picture for an illustration of each step.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Select the size paper you wish to use. My example is made from 3x5 cards. I do not recommend this size because it is very hard to fasten all of the pieces together. You could use an entire 8.5 x 11 sheet or cut it into pieces.

  2. Step 2

Fold the left bottom corner to the upper right side. You'll have a triangle with leftover paper at the top.

  3. Step 3

Trim off the extra paper at the top. Rotate your triangle so the longest side is vertical instead of diagonal.

  4. Step 4

Take the bottom corner and fold it up to meet the top corner.

  5. Step 5
Not Cut Through All the Way
Not Cut Through All the Way

Cut slits into your snowflake piece diagonally from the bottom to the left side. Do not cut all the way through the side! This picture illustrates that. The amount of cuts you make is your own choice. I recommend at least three. Make sure all of your pieces have the same amount of cuts.

  6. Step 6

Unfold your triangle. It should now be a square with smaller squares almost cut into it.

  7. Step 7

Bring the smallest ends together in the center and secure with tape. You do not want to create a fold. On the alternate side bring together the next ends. Repeat with each set of ends alternating each side.

  8. Step 8

Congratulations! You have now made one part of the snowflake. Repeat five more times for a total of six pieces. I usually like to cut all the squares, fold them, etc. at one time.

  9. Step 9
    Yay Final Product!

Fasten all of the bottom points of the pieces together. You can do this with tape, glue, or a staple. Make loops of tape and connect the sides of the pieces. Of course yours will look much better than mine because you will be able to fasten all of your pieces together!
