How to Make an Oompa Loompa Costume

Are you looking for a fun and creative homemade costume for Halloween or a costume party? Then why not be an Oompa Loompa from the 1971 movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The Oompa Loompa is a great and easy costume idea, and can be easily altered to fit your needs and style.

Step 1

Take the brown turtleneck and add vertical white stripes to the neck and cuffs with the white tape or paint.

Step 2

Paint or tape brown stripes on the pompoms and socks, I recommend using paint for the pompoms because tape will bunch up and fall off.

Step 3

Use a safety pin or a needle and thread to attach the pompoms to the shoes, one pompom for each shoe. Do not add the pompoms to the shoes until the paint has dried. I recommend attaching the pompom to the shoelace rather that the shoe itself and that might be difficult.

Step 4

You can usually find any number of colored wigs at a Halloween store or online, but if you seem unable to find a curly green wig, it's an easily remedied situation. Purchase or find a curly or semi-curly blonde wig and some green hair spray. Set the wig on some form of a stand in a well-ventilated area and spray it fully with the green spray. Depending on the spray you get, it might stain clothes or other surfaces so be sure everything is covered.

Step 5

If you are making the costume for a trick-or-treater, you can add a pillowcase with the word Sugar painted on it as a candy bag.

Step 6

Top the whole thing off with the white suspenders and pants. Tuck the turtleneck into the pants and add the suspenders over it. Add the finishing touch with some orange face paint and the now green wig. Enjoy your time as an Oompa Loompa.
