How to Create a Memo Template

Imagine how life would be easier as a writer if you don't have to work from scratch to write memos all the time. Memos are used for internal office correspondence. You may be required to write memos often, so it is best to use a template to avoid having to spend time formatting the document into a memo format that you've used before.

Instructions

    • 1

Format the page. One of the main purposes of creating a memo template is to preserve what has been used before for future use to save time and be more efficient. Memos use one-inch margins on all sides and are unjustified and single-spaced. Use the default font Times Roman and the font size 12.

    • 2

Fill in the header section with "To," "From," "Date" and "Subject" lines. The subject line is usually boldface. Since the memo is internal, recipient and sender addresses are not required at the top. These memos can also be written on plain paper or with company letterhead.

    • 3

Use bullet points in the body of the memo. Points are easier to read in this format than large blocks of text. When a procedure is being explained, arrange the points in chronological order and number them. End the letter with the action you want to happen. The end of the memo signifies the action needed on the part of the recipient. Memos are not signed at the end.

Save this file as a template document. Click "File > Save as." Click on the drop-down menu to select the format of the document and choose "Template." You will be able to load this template into word when the need for a memo comes.
