Surgical technologists work as part of the surgical team assisting surgeons in the operating room. There are two certification exams available for trained surgical technologists. One is administered by the National Board for Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) and the other by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Anyone who passes the NBSTSA exams becomes a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), while someone who passes the NCCT exams becomes a Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C). Sample tests for preparing for the NBSTSA certification exam are available as web practice tests.
