If you are fresh out of high school, find yourself laid off from your job, or simply hate your current career path, you might need career training. But what if you do not have funds or time for college career training? Depending on your career choice, you might have several options for free career training.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get a job at the bottom of the rung. If you are trying to break into a new industry, you can often easily get an entry-level position and work your way up. Make sure that your new employer knows you are open to learning and want to work your way up as quickly as possible. A good employer will work with you to help you achieve your goals.

  2. Step 2

Contact your city hall and ask about local commerce groups in your area related to your desired career. Use these contacts to find a mentor that is willing to teach you what he/she knows. This is often the best type of career training, as you will learn first hand the dos and don'ts of the trade.

  3. Step 3

Consider applying for internships. Some are unpaid, and some might offer pay. An internship is a great way to learn a new career and looks great on a resume. Internships also help you establish business connections and get your foot in the door.

  4. Step 4

Ask local colleges and training centers about available scholarships and grants. You might be able to find college funding to get free career training.
