Stop buying processed foods, these are generally more expensive and less nutritious for your diet. Eat more meals at your home. By simply not purchasing calorie and chemical laden fast food and processed food you will become healthier. While some fast food is very inexpensive right now- do not make a habit of eating it regularly- think of long term health effects (obesity, diabetes) when you are tempted.

Start eating lower on the food chain, this means more vegetables, grains beans and legumes. Make meats and cheeses a side dish, or even better, an accent to your dish. For example- tacos can easily be bulked up with beans and sauteed onions, peppers, or even (for the more adventurous) squash or cauliflower. White beans or kidney beans can be added to pasta to add protein, while sprinkling cheeses lightly on top will accent flavor. Using only 1/4 to 1/2 of the meat costs less. Consider having meat free meals for two of your three meals of the day.
