Things You'll Need:
- Love
- Patience
- Prayers
-
Step 1
Ask for help.Contact your local Salvation Army. We’ve all seen the Santa’s helpers waving the bell, asking people for donations. Maybe in years past, you donated what you could. Now it’s your turn to need the help. Call. Their website: http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/www_usn_2.nsf/vw-local/Home
-
Step 2
Give a little.Contact your local Church. Christmas is, after all, a religious holiday. Many Churches collect money especially for low income families this time of year so that they can help as many families as possible. But if they don’t know that you are struggling, they can’t help you.
-
Step 3
Community centers.Check other local community organizations. Generous donations of food, clothes, and toys can be made at other locations than just your Church. Some even provide secrecy for those seeking their help so you will not have to feel ashamed for asking and needing help. Charity is a form of love and if you need food or toys for your children, know that people really do care and are good at heart.
-
Step 4
Read for help.Grab a local newspaper. Aftertimes, there will be articles on ways to help low income families and where this help can be sought. Some states even have programs designed to help low income families. Check out all avenues. Even check out the help wanted section.
-
Step 5
Help yourself, help others.Go to the grocery store. Oftentimes, they have bulletin boards with job postings or other items of interest. Any additional source of income would certainly help so you can afford some presents for your little ones. Remember the proverb: Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. I’m sure you are doing everything you can to get a job and that’s great. Just remember, when you do get back on your feet, to give back again to those who are less fortunate.
-
Step 6
Also, some grocery stores have food drives during the holidays. Call the store's manager, let them know that you are in need and help will be given to you.
-
Step 7
Search on goggle for "Christmas charities" or "Christmas help" in your local area. By taking the time to search within your state or city, you'll be able to find local places that can help you.
-
Step 8
Even if you can't afford to buy presents for your children, you can still give them the gift of yourself. Play with them, read them a story (Twas the Night Before Christmas), make paper snowflakes and decorate the house with them. Be creative. There are other ways to enjoy the holiday then by spending money.
-
Step 9
Help someone this Christmas! If you have money this holiday season, consider purchasing clothes and toys and donating them to a Church or the Salvation Army. Christmas is all about giving and it warms every heart to know that you have done your part, however small, to help those in need.
