Things You'll Need:
- 1/2 inch thick plywood
- bedding for mattress
- accent pillows for added comfort
-
Step 1
Place a sheet of plywood under the mattress. The plywood should be fairly thick, at least ½ inch. You will want to measure the sofa sleeper frame width and length. Cut the plywood slightly larger than the frame. Most sofa beds are uncomfortable because the frame isn’t very supportive and it sags in the middle. The plywood will support the mattress and eliminate the sags.
-
Step 2
If you’re sofa bed frame is in good shape, then you might want to replace the mattress. A good choice would be the Air Dream Sofa Sleep system. It comes in twin and queen sizes and is a quality mattress with spring coil support and a layer of air for added comfort.
-
Step 3
Make sure your sofa sleeper has a complete set of quality bedding that fits the mattress. Whether the sofa sleeper is for guests or for your own use, you will get a better night’s sleep if you aren’t struggling with bedding that’s not sized to fit your mattress.
-
Step 4
Place some accent pillows on the sofa. When converted to a sofa sleeper, these pillows will serve to support the guest should they decide to sit up in bed to read or watch television.
-
Step 5
course, you could always replace your old sofa sleeper with a brand new one. The Select Comfort Sleep Number® Sofa Sleeper would be ideal. It gives you the ability to select the firmness of the mattress. The mattress is eleven inches thick and there is no uncomfortable cross bar in the frame. on 7/3/2009 Great ideas for making a sleeper sofa more comfortable--you're so right that they're seldom a good spot to spend more than a night (but I wonder if that's sometimes the intention ;-)).
