1
Be realistic about what you can spend, and look for a restaurant that fits your budget. All that matters is that the venue is appropriate for the gathering, the service is good, the meal is tasty and the guest enjoy themselves.
-
2
Call ahead and ask if the eatery offers discounts for big groups. If you are bringing 20 people with you, the manager may accommodate you for bringing in so much business.

3
Find a spot with a menu that contains all-inclusive meals. Dinner and chain restaurants are known for offering bread, soup or salad, a beverage, entree, side dishes and dessert as a complete meal. As the host, you can choose a few selections to offer to your guests.
-
4
Look for restaurants that offer family style or buffets. Buffets are a good bet because they carry a large selection that can satisfy everyone. Family style, where the table members help themselves to a few main dishes, is another appealing option because guests can select the size of their portions.
-
5
Go for a pasta entree instead of a meat-based one. This is less expensive but always filling.
-
6
Instead of ordering individual appetizers, ask the kitchen if a few plates of an antipasta or a similar vegetable-centric dish can be prepared for the table.
-
7
For beverages, can skip alcohol altogether and ask if coffee and soda can be served by the pot/pitcher. Water, of course, is also free.
-
8
If you want wine for the table, order by the bottle, not the glass. Or better yet, choose a BYOB establishment where you can bring your own. These places are growing in popularity both because of the savings they offer and because of people's preference to pair a favorite selection with their dinner.
-
9
Choose wisely at dessert, if you have it at all. Scoops of ice cream or gelatin cost less than sundaes or gourmet cakes and pies. You can also make the party last longer by bringing everyone home for homemade dessert and coffee instead of eating at the restaurant.
