How to Breed Labyrinth Fish

There are quite a few criteria to consider when breeding a fresh water fish. First you will need to select a breed, here breeding will concern the Labyrinth Fish. Fish breeding can pose as a challenge because fish vary according to the way they breed, as well as what environments they can survive and thrive in.

Things You'll Need:

  • a fish tank that holds between 7 and 10 gallons
  • Labyrinth fish
  • fish food (check local pet store to get the appropriate food)
  • a temperature controlled tank
  • baby brine or flake fish food
  1. Step 1

    Labyrinth fish are the easiest to breed. Most Labyrinth fish are males, which is good because they will maintain their nest on their own.


    They will usually build a nest in plants or other debris and attract their mates on their own.

  2. Step 2

    Breeding this type of fish requires a fish tank that holds between 7 to 10 gallons.

  3. Step 3

    Keep the temperature of the cage at 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

  4. Step 4

    You will slowly lower the temperature doing hatching time, and increase it back to 80 degrees Fahrenheit after. It usually takes between 24 to 30 hours before the eggs begin to hatch.

  5. Step 5

    To feed your fish, follow the information on the flake fish bottle. If unsure how often to feed the fish, don't hesitate to ask a fish specialist or visit a pet store.
