Things You'll Need:
- charcoal/ebony pencil
- sketchbook
-
Step 1
First get comfortable with all of your supplies in front of you.It is easier to draw from a picture rather than with someone sitting in front of you.
-
Step 2
(I like to use black and white photos because they show the contrast in a persons face)A teacher of mine told me that drawing a picture upside down will force you to pay attention to the lines rather then the picture itself. This is a very helpful tip but if you arent all that great at drawing you might want to follow these next steps.
-
Step 3
When drawing a portrait the major thing to focus on is the eyes ,a persons eyes defines them.Start with the eyes first then nose and mouth.
You can also practice a few times before starting by doing some contour drawing(this is when you focus only on the picture or object ur drawing and without taking your eyes off the photo guide your pencil along on your drawing paper. This is training your brain and hand into drawing what you see therefore making the image more accurate.Try these steps and remember to practice it does not come over night.
