Proper Taping of a Softball Bat.
Proper Taping of a Softball Bat.

Sometimes holding a softball bat can be uncomfortable leading one to falter on swinging. Properly taping your bat not only improves performance, but it can determine the length of time your bat lasts, as well as making swinging easier to achieve.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a softball bat
  • tape (duct tape)
  1. Step 1

Decide where you want to begin taping your bat. Usually, one shouldn't tape the bat right near the knob. Taping too close to the knob can alter your performance in swinging the bat.

  2. Step 2

Begin taping at the bottom of the bat. Be sure to smooth the tape as you go to ensure that the tape will prevent bulging. You want to make sure the tape resembles that of a tapered handle, meaning that the tape will be as smooth as possible and will appear as part of the bat itself.

  3. Step 3

Keep taping until the tap is thick enough to serve as your grip.

  4. Step 4

Repeat the first three steps if you need to add another layer. Be sure to smooth down the tap as you go, smoothing out any air bubbles.

Tips & Warnings
  • When taping your bat, be sure to do it slowly to ensure smooth tape without bumps.
  • Do not tape near the knob, this can cause an inefficiency in batting. Also, depending on the umpire, you can be called out of a game and asked to remove the tape.
