    Things You'll Need

    • iPod Classic
      • 1

Make sure the iPod Classic isn't simply paused or locked. Check the screen for a lock symbol. If you see a lock, unlock the Hold switch. You should be back in business.

      • 2

Put the iPod on a flat surface to stabilize it. Slide the Hold switch on, then slide it off.

      • 3

Hold down Select and Menu together for several seconds with two fingers. Make sure your finger isn't touching the Click Wheel. When the Apple logo appears, release Select and Menu.

      • 4

If the iPod Classic doesn't reset, repeat the above step. If that still doesn't get your iPod Classic to restart, plug the iPod into a power adapter or a computer and see if it starts up.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Never reset the iPod Classic when you see these messages on the screen: "Connected. Eject before disconnecting", "Sync in Progress. Please wait...", or "Do not disconnect".
