This article is about learning how to make and shoot a foul shot. A foul shot is when you take 1,2, or even 3 shots from the foul line. A foul shot will occur if the referee calls a foul. That is why it is called a foul shot. This is one of the most easiest shot to make in basketball because your are not guarded by anyone. It can also be very hard to make because you need lots of focus. The foul shot could be a win-lose situation.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Basketball
  • Yourself
  • A Basketball Court
  1. Step 1

    First, you want to make sure that your comfortable with the basketball. Make sure your dominant hand is in the middle and your other hand should be comforting the ball for a good release. Take a short routine for ex. one of my players likes to bounce the ball twice before shooting the ball. This routine is to help you clear everything in your mind.

  2. Step 2

    Secondly, you want to keep your eyes on the hoop. If you focus somewhere else you might miss or totally air ball the basketball. Also you need to keep your feet on the foul line, not exactly but make sure you get as close as you are comfortable inside you are in shooting.

  3. Step 3

    Thirdly, you want to have a nice release. To do this you need to lightly bend your knees and (follow it up) with your arms and upper body. If you are smaller you might need to either put more legs into your shot or your arms.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you shoot in one fluid like motion.
  • Keep your eyes on the hoop
  • Watch your feet, make sure they do not pass the foul line during your shot
  • Keep practicing and you will make a foul shot
  • If you step over line during your shot, the shot you made in might not have count.
