How to Mount Kicker Amps

Kicker amps are amplifiers used in cars that are known to be loud and clear. Kicker specializes in auto electronics, so the company's amplifiers can be rather expensive, but at the same time they offer a massive sound. When comparing Kicker amps to other brands, you will realize that Kicker offers a better volume without having to install additional amplifiers. Follow a few steps to install a Kicker amp and enjoy superior sound in your car.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine where you want to mount the Kicker amps in your car. Mount amps in the trunk, behind a seat or in the passenger compartment as long as it gets enough ventilation. Kicker Amps tend to get hot.

    • 2

Remove the EndKap on the amplifier with a wrench so you can access the mounting holes.

    • 3

Find the ground wire in the car. This is usually black and is screwed into a metal part of the car's body. Check the metal near the spare tire or the bottom of the passenger seat. The ground wire usually runs on the bottom of the car and is no longer than 24 inches. Connect the wire to the first connector on the right side of the Kicker amp.

    • 4

Disconnect the car battery and run a 12-volt power supply wire from the car battery through a hole in the car's firewall. Make the hole big enough for the wires to go through it. This will connect to the Kicker amp; the connection for the power supply is located second to the right on the amplifier. Put an in-line fuse holder near the battery as close as possible. This will prevent the car from catching on fire in case a wire has a short circuit. Use wire ties to secure the fuse to parallel wires.

    • 5

Run the RCA cables and remote lines. These will start from the backside of the main unit. Run these wires under the carpet in the car and connect them to the left side of the Kicker amplifier.

    • 6

Connect the speaker wires from the speakers to the Kicker amps. Mount the amps by drilling four holes located at each corner. If you decide to keep the amp under the passenger seat, you will need to drill small holes into the car floor. Be sure there are no wires that you could drill into, such as the brake or fuel lines. If mounting in the trunk, be sure to find an area where there are no wires before drilling the four screws into each corner of the amplifier. Place the EndKap back onto the amp in order to hide the wiring.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to keep the controls that are located on top of the Kicker amp accessible so you can adjust as needed.
