Measure the length and width of the room in feet. Multiply these two numbers together to get the square feet of the room. For example, if your room is 10 feet by 12 feet, the square footage would be 120 square feet.

At this point, you must add 10% to that number for waste. In the case of our 10X14 room, you would need to add 12 feet to the total, meaning you would need to order 132 square feet for that room. Add all your rooms together to get the total amount you will need to order.

As for padding for carpet, use the actual square footage (not including the 10% waste) to determine how much padding you will need. Each roll is 100 square feet. You will have to buy it in complete rolls. In the case of our 120 square foot room, you would need two rolls.
