Get Power Armor in Fallout 3

Power Armor is without doubt the best armor in the game. It gives you a Strength and Rad Resistance Bonus, though it does reduce your Agility a bit. It has high damage resistance and looks great! There's a catch though: you have to learn how to use it. Here's how it works.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate some Power Armor. There are lots of ways to do this. Kill Enclave Troopers, pick it off dead Brotherhood of Steel troops, kill Outcast Brotherhood of Steel troops or you can occasionally buy it from Tulip in Underworld. Picking it off the dead Brotherhood troops is the easiest.

    • 2

Go to the Galaxy News Radio building. If you are following the main quest chain, you should do this anyway. Once you reach the GNR building, you will have to fend off a Super Mutant Behemoth. Once it is dead, the complex is secure and you are free to loot the bodies. There is always at least one dead Brotherhood trooper nearby. Loot his armor and store it away for now (it is heavy and you don't want to carry it with you forever.)

    • 3

Continue the story. *Spoiler Alert* The training you need to wear Power Armor is obtained in The Citadel; the Brotherhood of Steel headquarters and the remnants of The Pentagon. The only way you can access The Citadel is by advancing the story to the point that it takes you there naturally. Repairing Project Purity with your dad will lead to you making your escape to The Citadel.

    • 4

Speak to Elder Lyons. You will meet him immediately after you enter the Bailey (the circular training area where Initiates are constantly shooting) of The Citadel. Ask for the Elder's permission to learn Power Armor. He will grant it.

    • 5

Look around the Bailey for Paladin Gunny. He typically wanders around the outskirts of the inner circle and is always on the ground level. Speak to him to learn to use Power Armor. This grants you the ability to wear any type of Power Armor: Power Armor, T-51b Power Armor, Enclave Power Armor, Outcast Power Armor and Brotherhood Armor.

    • 6

Keep your armor repaired. This is one of the many ways having 100% skill in Repair comes in handy. Note that Enclave Power Armor can only repair other Enclave Power Armor. All the other types of Power Armor are interchangeable; they can all repair each other.

Tips & Warnings

  • Outcast Power Armor and Brotherhood Armor are the best. They give the highest Strength bonus (+2.) The T-51b has the highest damage resistance rating, but it also has no Strength bonus.
