Ever need that jar open to finish cooking breakfast, lunch, or dinner? Here a few tips that might help the next time your in a jam.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If the jar is brand spanking new and the lid just wont budge. Try using a bottle opener to break the seal. Simply apply pressure to the lid by pulling the lid up and away from the jar. Go around the jar in several places pulling up on the lid till you break the seal.

  2. Step 2

If the problem is caused by food stuck between the lid and jar forming a tight seal. You will need to tap the lid with the back of a butter knife in several places to knock away any food.

  3. Step 3

Occasionally I have a lid that just wont budge. In that case I will run the lid under hot water for 1 to 2 minutes. The hot water will usually cause the metal lid to expand making it easier to open. Be careful not to place a cold jar under hot water, the sudden temperature change can cause a jar to break.

  4. Step 4

For some added traction you can wrap the lid in a dish towel. Sometimes your hands are slightly wet or oily from cooking and a towel will be all you need to get a good grip.
