You've noticed your teenage son is starting to grow chin hairs or a mustache. Now is the time to teach him how to shave and encourage him to keep up a well-groomed appearance.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a teenage son
  • an electric or safety razor
  • shaving cream
  • shaving kit to keep supplies
  1. Step 1

Decide whether he would like to shave with a safety razor or with an electric shaver.

  2. Step 2

If he decides on the safety razor, go shopping and let him choose a brand that interests him. Prices on razors range from just pennies per razor up to several dollars. Electric shavers range from less than thirty dollars to over two hundred dollars.

  3. Step 3

Make sure he starts with warm water. This helps soften the hair, making it easier to shave.

  4. Step 4

Apply shaving cream. Some prefer simply to use soap, but many shaving creams have moisturizers that help soften the beard and leave your skin feeling soft.

  5. Step 5

Instruct your son to take his time shaving. Make sure he uses long, smooth strokes with just the right amount of pressure to remove the hair. Too much pressure and he might get a cut.

  6. Step 6

Rinse between each stroke to remove the shaving cream and hairs from the razor.

  7. Step 7

Make sure when your son finishes shaving that he thoroughly rinses his face and his razor.

  8. Step 8

Have him store his razor and cream in a shaving kit. If he uses a disposable razor, make sure he throws it away after a few uses. If the razor pulls the hairs, rather than cutting, it's time to toss the razor and get a new one. Make sure he lets you know he's on the last one so you can purchase new ones before he runs out.

  9. Step 9

Compliment your son on how nice he looks. It may not be necessary for him to shave every day, but it is important for him to look his best.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have a styptic stick on-hand in case of cuts.
