Step 1
Determine what grants are available. Before you can apply for a grant, you will need to determine what grants are available for businesses. It’s important to apply for grants that fit your business needs and to ensure that you will meet the criteria. You can search to see which grants are available online at www.grants.gov or www.usa.gov and see whether any are available that you would qualify for.
-
Step 2
Choose a Few Different Grants. There is no rule which states that you’re only allowed to apply for one grant at a time. You can definitely apply for more than one grant and doing so may help you obtain the money you need. Select a few grants which you would qualify for so that if one or two of them doesn’t work out, you still have other options.
-
Step 3
Apply for the Grants. Next you will need to get the applications and fill them out. The requirements for information are different depending upon which grant you’re applying for. Be sure that you know which information is needed and that you provide them with exactly that information. You will probably need to supply personal income information, information about past grants received, the amount of money you need for your small business and more. Be sure that the applications are thoroughly filled out.
-
Step 4
Send out the Applications. After you’ve thoroughly filled out the applications, you need to send them to the proper recipient. If you received the grant applications online, you will be told where to send them to. If you will be faxing the applications, be sure to direct the application to the correct person by placing ‘attention’ on top. This may make things go faster for you and the decision as to whether or not you qualify.
-
Step 5
Wait and be patient. The only thing you can do after you’ve applied for all applicable small business grants is wait. You should receive information about whether or not you qualify for the grants within a few months. However, some grantors take longer to get back to you, so don’t give up hope unless you’ve received information letting you know that you have not qualified. Good luck.
