Step 1
Whenever you decide to cut your dogs toe nails make sure you have styptic powder to stop the bleeding. If you are looking for a different compound to use, corn starch also works.
-
Step 2
If you do cut the quick. immediate use the styptic powder or corn starch on the nail to absorb the blood and get the nail to stop bleeding.
-
Step 3
Once you put on the powder, apply pressure on the bottom of the nail to clog up the nail and reduce the blood flow. This will take you to actually hold the nail for a few minutes.
-
Step 4
Wrap the foot in a soft towel allowing the nail to not touch anything and the blood to clot up and stop bleeding.
-
Step 5
Once the blood has stopped, then you will need the dog to stay off the foot for at least 20 minutes. Getting up and prancing around will cause it to start bleeding again. It is recommended to put a bandage on the foot for the rest of the day.
