Black Forest cupcakes is a shortcut version of Black Forest cake, with all the same ingredients. The assembly time is much faster & the results are pretty terrific. An easy, fast, chocolate dessert treat
bound to impress.
Enjoy!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dark Chocolate Cake Mix
  • Whipped Topping Dry Mix
  • Milk Chocolate Bar
  • Cherry Pie Filling
  • Pastry Tip -optional
  • Sealable Plastic bag
  1. Step 1
    Dark Chocolate Cake Mix
    Dark Chocolate Cake Mix

Buy your favorite dark chocolate cake mix. We usually buy whatever is on sale. Preheat the oven. For a nicer textured cake, sift the ingredients in the box into a large bowl. Mix all the wet ingredients- water, eggs, oil, in a separate bowl. Add 1 teaspoon almond extract to the wet ingredients. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry cake mix & blend until smooth. No need to get out the electric mixer with this method.

  2. Step 2
    Dry Whipped Topping

Place cupcake liners in muffin pan. With an ice cream scoop or large spoon, pour the mix into the cup cake liners filling 2/3 full. Bake at recommended temperature & set your timer for 20 minutes or less. Remove cupcakes from oven and allow to cool to room temperature. They can be refrigerated over night if covered with food wrap.

  3. Step 3
    Red Cup Cake Liners

While the cup cakes are in the oven, whip up your topping. We use dry topping mix rather than whipped cream. The whipped topping has less tendency to melt down when left out at room temperature. Add to the dry whipped topping 1 tablespoon of dark cocoa - sifted. Whip up topping according to directions until stiff. Cover & refrigerate the topping.

  4. Step 4
    Snip End off Plastic Bag

To decorate the cup cakes, take a ziploc bag and snip off one corner. If you want to get fancy, insert a large open pastry tip. Wrap a rubber band around the tip to keep the topping from escaping. Otherwise, simply load the topping into the bag and squeeze out the air from the bag. While squeezing the bag, draw a circle of topping around the cupcake, leaving the center open.

  5. Step 5
Use Vegetable Peeler for Chocolate Curls

Open the can of cherry pie filling. Using a tablespoon, scoop a portion into the center of each cup cake. Each cupcake should have a couple of cherries & minimum red filling.Take your milk chocolate bar and warm it up slightly by rubbing it with your hands. Using a vegetable peeler, peel chocolate curls over the top of each cup cake.

  6. Step 6
    Cup Cake Display Stand
    Cup Cake Display Stand

If the party is at your house, and you are a cup cake lover, consider buying a cupcake stand. They make a great display and take up little table space. Many break down for flat storage. Recently, I saw a cup cake display stand at a dollar store for eight dollars.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cupcakes can be made a day ahead if kept cool or refrigerated
  • Warning: you will be asked to bring these to every party you attend!
