Things You'll Need:
- a strong desire to be healthy and happy.

Step 1
Tim McGraw’s Father (Tug McGraw) coined this term when he was pitching for the New York Mets and it says it all. Before you begin any project like changing yourself you have to believe it will happen, and you have to want it badly. Without commitment it’s doomed to failure and discouragement and then you’re toast. Don’t kid yourself, this is no quick fix, no short term fling; it’s going to be a change of lifestyle. If you make it work you will create a new, better, healthier and happier you.

Step 2
Set goals, a realistic long term goal and then a series of short term goals that lead to the long term goal. This will allow you to measure your progress as you become a healthier you. Reaching these small goals will encourage you and keep you on track. Remember that setting goals is not enough; you have to plan and perform actions that accomplish these goals. Each day act to accomplish your short term goal; don’t let a day go by without taking action. Short term goals can be actions as simple as “I won’t overeat today”. Making a short term goal like losing 2 pounds this week without a plan of action is useless. How will you accomplish this goal? Long term goals should be realistic, and within reach. If your long term goal is too far away it won’t feel real. Make sure your short term goals lead up to the long term one.

Step 3
The mind is a powerful thing but your will can be weak. You have to control your subconscious habits and replace them with new empowering ones. If you consciously practice new good habits over and over it will work its way to your subconscious and replace the old bad habits. It’s like reprogramming your cell phone; but now it’s your brain. As your habits change you begin to become a new happier person. If you take smaller portions when you eat and you eat slower you can eat less and still feel satisfied. This action can replace overeating or stuffing yourself. If you do it on a regular basis it becomes your habit.
