Step 1
Start giving. This is more of a spiritual concept than
anything else, but it has great application in the internet marketing
space. You see, people on the internet are shoppers. Not everyone is
interested in buying…yet. They want the experience of trying your
product (through the marketing) before they buy. Let's say you're a
real estate agent. Instead of having a site that is simply "search for
this house, buy here, call me here," create a blog offering valuable
content to yoru readers. You will soon find that the more you give,
the more prospects will call and call you and become clients. PERFECT -
Step 2
Be consistent! Everyone is busy and I miss this step all the
time. If you are really committed to building and growing a business,
do something everyday. Remember how I mentioned the valuable content?
Write a piece everyday. I know what you're already thinking: I don't
have anything to say. Well not to worry. There's tons of stuff out
there. Position yourself as a resource. Comment on news articles,
videos, etc. It's okay to use another's content as long as you
reference back to them. Just be committed to your goals and don't
stop. This should be as automatic to you as showering or as brushing
your teeth. And don't be afraid of doing the work. Once you get a
system down, your work will be cut down to around 10 minutes a day. -
Step 3
Start telling people how to contact you. People have to learn
how to contact you as well. Once you build yourself as a resource,
it's okay to start selling. Well known real estate marketer, dean
Jackson has an awesome way of doing this. He said he used position his
sale indirectly. Most realtors will say: "Let's set up an appointment
to see some houses, etc." He would say: "Now if you're interested
we're having tours on Saturdays 10 AM and 1:00 PM, which day would
work better for you?" Now this sounds like its already taking place.
The prospect is essentially "jumping on the bus." But it doesn't have
to be that way. This could just as easily be one-on-one.
