Things You'll Need:
- confidence
- good work ethic
-
Step 1
Showcase the accomplishments you’ve made while working for your boss. Give your boss many reasons to be impressed with how you’ve advanced the company over the years. This will help make your case for an increase in job salary.
-
Step 2
Remind your boss of the positive job performance reviews you have received. This evidence speaks for itself!
-
Step 3
List all the extra work responsibilities you’ve taken on over the years without an increase in job salary. Do not take on a whiny tone when discussing all you’ve done. Treat this as an opportunity to make your boss proud of you as an employee—and hopefully reward you with a raise!
-
Step 4
Remind your boss of how long it’s been since you last received a raise. Tread carefully with this one. If you come across as a rebel without a cause, your boss may not only NOT give you a job salary raise, but may also decide to replace you. Always back up your wage negotiation skills with why you are of deserving of the extra job salary money.
-
Step 5
If you know employees in similar job positions who are making more job salary money than you, then bring this up. Do it casually and without any anger in your voice. You want your wage negotiation skills to come across as the voice of reason to your boss.
