How to Get Rid of a Cold Sore Quickly

It's winter again, and you know what that means.. It's cold sore season. Those painful, annoying and embarrassing outbreaks that take weeks to get rid of. A cold sore outbreak can be triggered by many things, such as stress, hormone fluctuation, extreme weather, greasy foods, colds, flu, and other illness. Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1, the type 2 variety is the one that causes genital herpes, so don't get worried. Here are some steps to help you get rid of a cold sore quickly.

Things You'll Need:

  • Anti bacterial soap
  • L-lysine tablets
  • L-lysine ointment
  1. Step 1

    Avoid touching or scratching the cold sore, if you can't resist use a washcloth with hot water and soap. The virus can be spread to other areas of your face if you pick at it.

  2. Step 2

    Wash your face and hands often with hot water and anti bacterial face. Stopping the spread of the virus will help you get rid of cold sores quickly.

  3. Step 3

    Use some form of L-lysine based ointment to cover the cold sore, and when you apply it go from the edges in to make sure you don't spread it to surrounding areas. Put the cream on thick to prevent further infection. and get rid of the cold sore quickly.

  4. Step 4

    Try to determine what the triggers were that brought on the cold sore outbreak and avoid them or take preventive measures before the outbreak starts.

  5. Step 5

    Take L-Lysine tablets every few hours. This is a highly rated treatment with some people swearing it ends an outbreak in days instead of weeks. I've linked some of the best products available in the resource section below, they will certainly help you to get rid of a cold sore quickly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Start taking L-lysine tablets as soon as you experience symptoms that may trigger an outbreak.
  • If you get cold sores in cold weather consider taking an L-lysine tablet every night.

  • Avoid physical contact with others when you have a cold sore outbreak, it's spread by physical contact.
