Decorate a Christmas Tree on a Budget

Decorating a Christmas Tree can add up fast. Try these budget ideas on for a change.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Do some internet or online research for homemade Christmas ornament crafts. You and your family may enjoy making ornaments together this year. You can save plenty of money this way. Along with creating the ornaments you will be making lasting family memories.

  2. Step 2

Go outside! Look for pine cones, all sizes, that you can paint for your tree. Use cans of spray paint using red, green, silver or gold. Add glitter and you will have some very pretty decorations. Use ribbon to hang your painted pine cones and you will love the look.

  3. Step 3

Use Christmas cards! If you have old cards from last year you can string them onto the tree. Or buy a box of cards at the discount or dollar store. Use colored sting, yarn, golden cord or ribbon to wrap around the tree, then hang the cards on the tree. This is fun and inexpensive.

  4. Step 4

Ribbon and bows! Take your present wrapping supplies and add them to your tree. Bring ribbon down the tree vertically for a unique look.

  5. Step 5

Try your hand at homemade popcorn ball ornaments. Pop popcorn and hot glue it to a Styrofoam all and embellish. Add some glitter, ribbon and greenery.

  6. Step 6

Think theme. Consider using a theme this year. If you work in the medical field you could decorate your tree with gauze, gloves and other medical apparatus. If you love the beach and have plenty of shells on hand, do a beach theme for a change. All without buying any new ornaments. Have some fun, use your hobbies or be just plain silly.

  7. Step 7

We used baseball stickers and put them on red and green construction paper this year. My son cut around the sticker and used a hole punch at the top. We put ribbon through the hole. This was a fun and easy way to make theme type ornaments.

  8. Step 8

Take your old ornaments and embellish them. If your ornaments have chipped paint, go over that area with some glitter glue. Add a design to the ornament and you can reuse it while making it look much better.

  9. Step 9

Take puzzle pieces and make a tree shaped ornament. Spray with gold, bronze or silver paint.

  10. Step 10

Yard sale shop and find a real treasure for a 1/4 of the price.

  11. Step 11

Try some stars or candy canes. Take some tag board or cardboard to make stars, candy canes or snowflakes. Cut out and add some glitter. Use some nice wrapping paper and glue to each side of the cut out for another look.

  12. Step 12

Get those old CDs out and decorate with glitter and glitter. If you have too many CDs then you could even build a tree with CDs. Google it, you will find photos!

  13. Step 13

What Christmas Tree would be complete without a paper chain? Use red and green ribbon on construction paper and you are well on your way with this Christmas favorite.
