A quarter dollar, commonly referred to as a Quarter, is a coin worth 1/4 of a US Dollar (Equivalent to 25¢). Although the Quarter is just 1.75 mm thick, did you know you can stand it on it's side?

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 Quarters (= 50 Cents!)
  • Patience

To get started, you will need to pull 2 quarters from your wallet, purse, piggy bank or coin collection. At least 1 of the 2 quarters must be from 1934 to 1999 which features an eagle on the reverse side of George Washington prior to the 50 State Quarters Program (Which is a series of commemorative coins by the United States Mint from 1999-Present).

  2. Step 2

Place the side with George Washington's face downwards on a flat leveled surface. The eagle's side should be facing upwards, soaring towards the sky! (Important: If you look closely, you will notice the eagle's legs are spread apart.)

  3. Step 3
    Whoomp! There it is!

Take the 2nd quarter (it can be from any year) and hold it on both sides with both of your index fingers and thumbs. Now carefully place the quarter in your hands directly in between the eagles legs. Beware: Balancing could take some time!

  4. Step 4

Note: The top coin's angle should be perpendicular to the bottom coin and it should run parallel to the bottom coin's legs. Once you finally have it standing, walk away, leave a comment below and let the world know how long it took you to balance the coin!

Tips & Warnings
  • Depending on your coordination, it may take a while and some practice to perfect this technique!
  • Try a different method of holding and balancing the coin
  • Don't get frustrated! Take a break, come back and try again!

on 1/29/2009 It would never have crossed my mind to spend my spare time trying to make a quarter stand up, but now I'm going to have to try it, just because you said it was possible, lol. Cool article.
