Learn how to exfoliate your skin without causing damage and irritation. Renew your skin with exfoliation.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water
  • Cleanser
  • 2 soft Washcloths
  • Exfoliator
  • Toner
  • Moisturizer
  1. Step 1

Begin by cleansing your skin (see my 'how to properly cleanse your skin').

  2. Step 2

Choose an exfoliator that is suitable for your skin. You want to stay away from any scrubs from a drugstore. Generally those have tiny beads that aren't perfectly circular so they are actually making cuts and tearing your skin. They are harsh and damaging. Instead choose a professional exfoliant found at any salon and spa. You might be spending a little more upfront, however it not only will last you longer than other exfoliants, but you will get better ingredients and in the long run save your skin. I recommend Dermalogica's Daily Microfoliant. It is great for EVERY skin type. So gentle you can use it everyday.

  3. Step 3

After cleansing your skin put a dime size of Daily Micro into the palm of your hand and about a pea size of water, mix, smooth all over your chest, neck, and entire face (1-2 times a week you can even put over your eye and lip area). Starting at your chest, using gentle pressure, use light circular motions (because your pores are circular), moving to your neck, under your jaw, onto your jaw, chin, upper lip, sides of face, ears, cheeks, temples, nose, forehead, even into the eyebrows. Rinse your skin 7 times with warm water only. Using the softest washcloth you have, wet it, use sideways and upward strokes to make sure that the exfoliator has been thoroughly removed.

  4. Step 4

It is important to balance the moisture levels in your skin with a toner afterwards. And for necessary hydration everyone needs to apply a moisturizer.
