Step 1
Pick a Role Model - One of the best things to do is to pick a role model that exudes confidence and mime them. Study their actions, their manner of speaking, the way they dress, and how they interact with others. Of course you don't want to spend your entire life aping someone else, but it is a great place to start, to get used to feeling! Sometimes its easier to pretend - you've heard the phrase, fake it 'til you make it!
-
Step 2
Banish Self Consciousness - people who are confident aren't self conscious, they are not embarrassed by their actions. Put a mental ban on self consciousness for one hour, one afternoon, or one day. You are wonderful the way you are, and no one does things exactly like you do - embrace that, don't be ashamed of it!
-
Step 3
Smile - Confident people smile often, and without much reason. Smiling is a friendly, open gesture that tells the people around you you are comfortable in your self and enjoying your time. Again, fake it until you make it!
-
Step 4
Thank People for Compliments - If someone gives you a compliment, say thank you with a smile! Don't shuffle your feet, mess with your hair, or grumble. Make eye contact and say, "Thank you very much, I like that shirt you are wearing too!" Remember to give compliments freely too - confident people are not threatened by other people's assets and therefore can appreciate them!
-
Step 5
Make Eye Contact - hold people's gazes. Don't be afraid to look other people in the eye and always be sure to do it when they are speaking or you are speaking.

on 9/20/2009 I faked my confidence and smiles every day when I transfered to a new school, and I made tons of friends. Then as we got closer, I became more down to earth, and more real, and as I relized how great of a person I was, I really was more confident, and didn't need to fake it anymore. Just remember not to become a fake, or snobby person.
