Have a Asus eee PC? Here are instructions (especially directed for owners of the eee PC 4G, eee PC 4G Surf, and the eee PC 8G) to optimize your operating system after you install Windows XP on a Asus eee PC.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Adjust your Asus eee PC's virtual memory to meet your needs. Go to "Control Panel" and then System > Advanced > Settings > Performance > Change. Enter your initial and maximize size for your virtual memory.

  2. Step 2

Disable system restore to optimize Windows XP on your Asus eee PC. Go to "Control Panel" and then System > System Restore > Turn off system restore.

  3. Step 3

Compress your disk drive: a great way to speed up your Asus eee PC. Control Panel > My Computer > Local Disk (Which is C:) > Properties > Compress drive to save disk space.

  4. Step 4

Move your files. Start > (Right Click) My Documents > Properties > Move > Choose a place (a different partition) > Ok

  5. Step 5

Clear out your temporary Internet Explorer files which will clog down your Asus eee PC. Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Settings > Temporary Internet Files > Move Folders

  6. Step 6

Remove "junk" Windows XP components. If you don't use 'em, you don't need 'em! Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Choose 'em > Lose 'em (Follow directions)

  7. Step 7

Deleting System Back up data will help to optimize Windows XP your Asus eee PC. All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt > Type "sfc.exe/purgecache" and press enter

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure you know what you are doing when you optimize Windows XP on your Asus eee PC. Good intentions mean nothing if you cause (possibly irreversible) damage.
