Homemade dog biscuits can be a perfect gift for the holidays. It's a gift that comes from the heart, is easy to make and affordable.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3/4 cup hot water or broth
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/3 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup powdered milk
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Cookie Cutters
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Decrotive Tin and Bow (optional)
  1. Step 1

    In large bowl pour hot water or broth over the margarine. Stir in powdered milk, salt, and egg. Add the flour 1/2 cup at a time. Dough will start to form once you start adding the flour.

  2. Step 2

    Once all the ingredients are mixed together, knead the dough for a few minutes (about 4 minutes). Lightly flour your working area and roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Dip the cookie cutters in flour and cut out the biscuits. Keeping with the holiday theme use shapes such as Christmas trees, stars, gingerbread men/women, and also bones, paws and dogs.

  3. Step 3

    Bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes in a greased cookie sheet. Cool the biscuits. Makes about 1 1/4 pounds of biscuits. Put biscuits in a decrative tin and tie a big bow around it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Doggie Icing
  • 1/2 stick of butter
  • 1/4 cup dry dog food
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 to 2 Tbsp milk or water
  • 1 Tbsp flour if needed for thickening Put everything in a food processor and mix well until desired thickness. Spread on pet's favorite cake or cookies. This is for occasion treating only.
  • Never use chocolate or raisins to decorate your treats.

on 9/14/2009 There is a Halloween themed camping and pets can be dressed up - I will be cutting the biscuits out into Halloween shaped cookies and passing them out to the campers who have dogs! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!
