1
Study the competition. Read and evaluate marketing letters you or your company may have received. Ideally, find and read competitor marketing letters. If it appeals to you, more than likely, the letter appeals to many of its recipients.
-
2
Opt for a template. If this is your first or tenth foray into writing a marketing letter, using a template will help you with structure, flow and cut down on writing time. Marketing letter templates can be found all over, quite possibly in office software already installed on your computer.
-
3
Pay attention to your headline. That first sentence or title should grab the attention and make a person want to read further. Write your headline with your target audience in mind.
-
4
Introduce yourself. The beginning of your marketing letter should introduce yourself and your company and what you have to offer. Focus more on the offering and less on your company. People want to know about you for trust reasons, but they want to hear how you can benefit them more.
-
5
Focus on your audience. If you have a history of helping other companies, briefly explain who, what and how you have helped others accomplish their goals and needs. If not, explain how you can help them alleviate a problem or otherwise ultimately help their business.
-
6
Keep it short and sweet. If you don't grab the attention of your audience in the first paragraph or two, odds are you have lost most of them. Do not go into lengthy or wordy jargon. When people read, they skim until something interesting grabs their attention. Nothing grabs attention more than focusing on exactly what you can do for their company.
-
7
Let them know how they can contact you. In at least two places in your marketing letter, ideally near the beginning and the end, give them contact information and easy directions on how to get more information on the services you're offering.
-
8
Check with writing pros. If your first marketing letter is too daunting or time consuming, consider outsourcing your marketing letter needs. There are literally thousands of freelance copy-ad and marketing writer's available ready and willing to write your marketing letter campaign.
