When it comes to a new baby, it's normal for moms to be overprotective and overpack for small trips. It's unnecessary to pack for a week when you're only going to be gone for a few hours, but some mothers tend to do this. It's not unusual to be worried that you'll run out of something or need something that you don't normally pack. However, carrying a diaper bag that is too heavy can put a burden on your body. There are ways to pack lightly without having to worry about whether you'll have what you need.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Diaper Bag
  • Diapers
  • 2-3 bottles or 1 sippy cup
  • Formula or breastmilk (if needed)
  • Small cooler bag (if needed for prepared formula or breastmilk)
  • Travel-size A&D ointment
  • Travel-size baby powder
  • Small box of bandages
  • Wipes
  • 2 extra pairs of clothes
  • Infant Tylenol
  • Snacks
  1. Step 1

Pack about 7 diapers for each day that you're going to be gone (unless, of course, you know that your child goes through more within a day's period). Pack a small box of wipes for dirty diapers or small messes.

  2. Step 2

Add 2-3 bottles to your diaper bag and/or a sippy cup. The bottles and cup can be washed out if they need to be used again.

  3. Step 3

Put a can of formula in the diaper bag. Carry enough purified water to mix with formula. Bottled water is small and convenient. Make sure you have enough, based on your baby's average feedings. If you're breastfeeding or using prepared formula, put the prepared drink in the bottles and use a small cooler bag to keep them cold.

  4. Step 4

Pack a small, travel sized A&D ointment and bandages in case of small cuts or rashes and a small, travel-size bottle of baby powder for diaper changes. Also, in case of a minor emergency such as a fever or teething pains, pack a bottle of infant Tylenol that comes with the dropper and don't forget any other medicine your baby is prescribed.

  5. Step 5

Add two extra pairs of clothes for your child in case of messes or accidents.

  6. Step 6

Put a few small snacks in the bag, such as graham crackers, fruit snacks and cereal bars for times when you're on the road.
