This How To article is going to show you how to make an authentic Mexican salsa. After reading this article you will be able to make a simple salsa that can be added to any Mexican meal to give it an extra pop of flavor!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 tomatillos(Mexican green tomatoes that have a leaf surrounding the tomatoe, found in mexican stores)
  • a handful of chile serranos (little dried red chiles)
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • two pinches of cumin
  • salt
  • water
  • small pan
  • blender
  1. Step 1

First you'll need to wash and take off leaves on tomatillos, also take stems off of chilies. Put tomatillos, chilies, and garlic in a small pan, with water to boil on med-hi heat, until tomatillos change in color from medium green to a light green. Turning occasionally.

  2. Step 2

Once cooked, take all contents in pan and put in a blender. Add cumin, a couple tsp. of salt to taste. Let sit for a couple of minutes with lid on. Add 1/2 cup of water. Put lid on blender and blend for one minute on a medium low setting until there are no more pieces of tomatoes left.

  3. Step 3

After a minute in blender salsa should be red and mixed. Taste, to make sure it is hot enough or to hot or needs more salt. If you need more or less of something, make sure to add a little at a time to make sure you don't put to much. If salsa is to hot add more water. Now your ready to add salsa to tacos, burritos, or anything else you want. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Add less water to make a very hot Mexican salsa
  • Blend salsa a little less than one minute if you want a chunky salsa
  • When taking lid off of blender, don't breath the steam from salsa. It is strong and can make you cough
