Make a Silk Carnation Snowman Corsage

Make a whimsical snowman corsage for a teacher, family member or child this holiday season. These snowmen or ladies will look nice on a coat or a wreath. This project requires you to make a double-carnation corsage. If you are making it for a child, select miniature carnation blossoms for a lighter weight. The snowman corsage would also make a decorative gift package topper. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 2 white silk carnation blossoms Floral tape Silk evergreen twig Beads, buttons or 1/4-inch black satin ribbon for facial pieces and other embellishments 1/4-inch ribbon, plaid, red or green velvet Wire cutters Glue gun with cool melt glue or fast drying fabric adhesive

Instructions

      Bend second carnation stem

      Cut the wire stems of 2 carnations 4 inches long. Place one carnation stem in the back. Bend the second stem until the second carnation is set directly under the first carnation. Bind stems together by wrapping tightly with floral tape. This is the head and body of the snowman.

      Use a hot-glue gun to apply a large red or black bead to the center of the top carnation for a nose.

      black satin ribbon loop

      Cut two 3/4-inch pieces of 1/4-inch black wide satin ribbon. Hold one piece and glue the ends together to form a loop. Repeat with the other piece of black ribbon.

      Hot glue the ends of the black ribbon down into the petals above the nose. This will be the two eyes.
      You can use beads or buttons if desired.

      Glue 2 lightweight buttons on the second carnation for the snowman's buttons.

      Wrap velvet ribbon around the corsage between the two carnations to replicate a scarf. Hot glue in place where the scarf crosses over itself. You may need to apply glue to the sides and back of the "neck" to create the look you want. Fringe the ends with sharp scissors if desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • If this is to be pinned on a coat use 2 corsage pins. You can add a hat, twigs for arms, a broom or any other decoration.

  • Test glue on a small section of material to make sure it will not melt it.
