If you're considering massage therapy schools; there are many to choose from. It can be an intimidating process if you don't know how to go about it. Armed with the right information, choosing between massage therapy schools can be easier than you might expect.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first step in choosing massage therapy schools to look into is deciding what type of massage practice you wish to have. Medical massage will have a different curriculum than general practice. Knowing which type of bodywork you want as a career will allow you to narrow down the various choices in massage therapy schools.

  2. Step 2

Visit naturalhealers.com where you will find an excellent guide to massage therapy schools listed by state, laws and state licensing, providing massage therapy as a career, and many other topics of interest to a potential massage therapy student. Resources provided below.

  3. Step 3

See the massagemag.com article listed in resources below for comprehensive information on selecting from the various massage therapy schools in your area. Knowing your prospective massage programs' accreditation, curriculum, financial aid offerings, and how the classes can fit your schedule are all inclusive in the well respected Massage Magazine's article.

  4. Step 4

Finally, consider one of the many distance learning massage therapy school programs. In many states, you can receive your hands on training (required), through a local training program and get the academic learning through massage therapy schools in a different state. This provides a way to study massage at one's own pace (in most cases), and with a schedule suited to individual needs. See the resource section below for massage therapy schools distance learning opportunities.

  5. Step 5

Talk to massage therapists in the area you wish to set up practice. They can share what their training program experience has been and what you may expect.

Tips & Warnings
  • Research massage therapy schools in the area you want to practice in. Most areas are legislated differently.

on 12/16/2008 I am definitely into healing by touch and I have been using my hands in this way since I was little, my grandmother always had problems with her feet. And I would help her. I would love to have this part of my carrier. 5*

on 12/14/2008 I have a friend that has her own practice. Nothing like a good massage. I read an article earlier on back pain and they said go to a massage school. I would have never thought of that. Great resources listed.

on 12/13/2008 There is nothing better than a good massage therapist to relieve stress. I'm sure learning the trade is not easy but it's good to know that there are options. ^5.
