Webster's dictionary describes Tradition as" body of belief, facts handed down from generation to generation without being reduced to writing; process of handing down". Christmas is a tradition in itself, but wouldn't it be fun to have a family tradition of your own. Read on as I give you ideas to create your own family tradition.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Bake cookies or make candies to share with friends and family. Children really love helping out, have them decorate Christmas sugar cookies they can leave out for Santa.Make this a yearly event your children will look forward to.

  2. Step 2

Check your local newspaper for events going on like Christmas plays or music concerts. Many schools and churches hold these types of events yearly. Take a drive to view all the Christmas lights that adorn many homes in your area. Pick a new event yearly and soon this will become your own Christmas family tradition.

  3. Step 3

If you really want to put the true meaning into Christmas check out local charities. Try a soup kitchen your family can volunteer at, give blood, collect items like gently used blankets and coats to give to the homeless or visit the elderly in nursing homes. You can bring them some of the cookies your family made. This list is endless and will be the most meaningfully Christmas family tradition.

  4. Step 4

If your family is musically gifted, singing Christmas carols around the piano could become a family tradition. Rent Christmas movies like 'A Christmas Carole', 'It's A Wonderful Life' or 'The Santa Claus'. Dedicate one night for your Christmas movie marathon. Whatever you choose for your Christmas family tradition it will create memories your children will cherish forever and they will pass it down from generation to generation.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful with children helping around the stove.

on 3/31/2009 When my family was growing together, we went to the local nursing home to sing at Christmas. That lifted everyone's Christmas tradition ideas to a new level.
