Rice Crispy Treat Snowman

Perfect for your holiday party... decorate these rice crispy snowmen yourself or make it a fun party activity for children!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 box Rice Crispies cereal
  • 1 package marshmallows
  • Butter
  • Decorator icing
  • 1 box cookies of choice
  • 1 pkg mini peanut butter cups
  • Coconut or powdered sugar
  1. Step 1

Prepare your favorite rice crispy treat recipe (the one on the box works just fine. I use 20 oz of marshmallows and a big box of rice crispies). Turn off the heat and let the mixture sit cool in the pan for about 3-5 minutes.

  2. Step 2

Place waxed paper on a hard surface and lightly grease your hands with butter or cooking spray (make sure to remove all jewelry!).

  3. Step 3

Place a large spoonful of the rice crispy treat mixture into your hands and roll into a ball. Coat with powdered sugar or coconut if desired (to make the snowmen really white). Place on the waxed paper to cool.

  4. Step 4

Decorate your snowmen. Use a chocolate-dipped cookie for a hat, placing the miniature peanut butter cups on top for a top hat (to make them stay in place, try heating the chocolate with a lighter before sticking it on the cookie). Use the decorator frosting to make a face. You can also use soft licorice to make a scarf.

  5. Step 5

After you are done decorating, display the snowmen on a bed of coconut or powdered sugar as a bed of snow.

Tips & Warnings
  • The hat can be adorned with other items, such as cherries (shown) or tootsie rolls (for stovepipe hats).
  • For a more authentic snowman, try placing a smaller ball on top of a larger ball while they are still warm.
  • For best results, reapply butter to hands between each rice crispy ball. Keep water handy.
  • For a special Christmas taste, add a dash of nutmeg, a teaspoon of vanilla, and a teaspoon of cinnamon to the melted marshmallows and stir before adding the rice crispies.
  • Note: Children should decorate the snowmen under adult supervision and an adult should attach the peanut butter cup to the cookie. For groups of children, it is a good idea to pre-assemble the hat pieces.

on 12/16/2008 You're right I really do need to update the picture... I made that one as a last-minute decoration to go over a normal pan. I think a two-story one with powdered sugar would look more authentic :)

on 12/16/2008 The only concern I have (and I'm trying to be funny here) is what happened to the rest of the poor beheaded snowman. This really sounds tasty. Thanks. 5*s
