Say Romantic Things in Italian

Italian is known as one of the romance languages and for good reason! Italians have long reputed to be one of the most romantic cultures in history. Speaking Italian is fairly easy, and speaking it to a loved one is easier, especially if they don't know what you are saying! I will provide a few basics to get you started.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Someone to speak to
  • Practice
  • Willingness to learn
  1. Step 1

    First, we will start of with some basics.

    I= io (EO)
    You= Tu (Tue)
    My= Mio (ME-OH)
    Love= amo (AHmo)
    Kisses = baci (BAH CHE)

  2. Step 2

    Here are some basic phrases:

    I love you = Ti amo (Normally while driving in Italy, it is very common to see signs expressing one's love for another with signs hanging from an overpass. Usually it will read something like this: Ti amo Maria)

    I miss you = Mi manche (ME MAH-NSHE) ( This is usually said when you are not near that person or on the phone.)

    With all my heart, I love you = Ti amo con tutto l'anima (In Italian, I's are normally pronounced like our English E's. So, the Italian word "Ti" is pronounced "TE" and "anima" would be pronounced "anEma".)You would say this to someone who you are very close to romantically, not on a first date.

  3. Step 3

    Now, the next phrase, be careful when using. If used improper or with the wrong person, it could come off sounding needy and no one likes a creepy partner.

    It is not possible to live without you = Non posso vivere senza voi (Non posso is a popular term in Italian. It's literal meaning is "not possible, but you could already figure that out, right?)(Vivere, is life, senza is without, and vio is another word for "you". Senza can be used in a variety of forms, even when ordering food. Una pane senza burro, means bread without butter.

  4. Step 4

    You are my.....(?) = Tu sei una ...(your choice of word here)
    Stella= star
    Love=amore
    Little strawberry = fragolina
    Forbidden Love = amore vietato (vietato mean prohibited)
    Kitten = gattini

  5. Step 5

    Asking someone to marry you in Italian might be strange unless the person you are speaking to knows Italian, but here it is: Lo sposereste? (The root of this word is Spose. Spose is similar to our word spose, or marriage)

  6. Step 6

    Saying goodbye.

    Goodbye, my love = Ciao mia amore
    When will we contact (see) each other again? = Quando veniamo a contatto di ancora? (Quando means "when". Contatto is contact)

  7. Step 7

    Good luck and have fun!
