Cook the Best Beef Short Ribs

I absolutely LOVE beef and I think I love Beef short ribs even more. There are several recipies out there for them. But nothing beats the basic traditional, down home preparation for Beef Short Ribs.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Beef Short Ribs (cut preference)
  • 1 Cup Flour
  • Salt & Pepper
  • 1 Garlic Clove
  • Seasoning Salt
  • 1 tbls Vegetable or Olive Oil
  • 1 Cup Water
  • Celery
  • Onions
  • Potatoes, Carrots (optional)
  1. Step 1
    Either cut will work fine.

The first thing you want to do is to choose the cut of Beef Short Rib you would like to prepare. There are actually two different cuts. The first is the long slender/thinner cut. The second is the thick cut which looks more like a cube. See the pictures provided. Either is fine. Obviously the thicker cut will have more meat. In the end, either will work fine with this recipe.

  2. Step 2

First wash your meat thoroughly. You don't want to remove too much of the fat from the meat. This is where you will get your juiciness. Be sure to wash/sanitize your hands after handling any raw meats.

  3. Step 3

Prepare a frying pan with about a tablespoon of vegetable or olive oil. Put the frying pan on medium heat. Begin pre-heating your oven for 375 degrees.

  4. Step 4

Season your short ribs with salt, pepper, seasoning salt and a little onion powder. Drudge the short ribs through flour and place in the frying pan.

  5. Step 5

Allow each side of the short ribs to brown and then remove from the pan. Place the short ribs and a little of the pan dripping in a casserole dish. Add onions, celery and any other vegetable such as carrots or potatoes to your dish. Pour in about a cup of water. Add the garlic clove and cover tightly with aluminum foil.

  6. Step 6

Place the dish in the oven and allow to slowing cook for about 1 1/2 hour. Do not remove the foil from the dish. Your short ribs will not need to be turned.

  7. Step 7

    Remove from oven and serve.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you would like a short rib with more gravy add Cream of Mushroom soup and Lipton Onion soup to the casserole dish
  • Do not cook your short ribs with high heat. Though it will not affect the recipe too much, lower heat over a longer period of time will make your short ribs more tender.
