Save Money with Weekly Grocery Shopping
Save Money with Weekly Grocery Shopping

When you're working for home, the phrase 'a penny saved is a penny earned' is more important than ever. Time is money, and it's your job to convert one to the other to the best possible manor. This doesn't just mean earning money, but also spending it efficiently. Switching over to weekly grocery shopping takes a bit more time upfront, but is well worth both in time saved AND money saved. It also helps you avoid those 'impulse' buys, because even if you give in, you only get one opportunity a week to do so.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Time
  • Pencil
  • Paper
  1. Step 1

The first step is to sit down and work out what meals you will be serving in the coming week. Spend some time doing this, you want the list to completely list everything your family will eat. Include lunches, breakfasts and snacks.

  2. Step 2

Go over your list of meals and write down all the food you will need to buy. Make sure to check to see what food you already have so you don't buy too much.

  3. Step 3

Check to see if there is anything else you need while you're at the store. Spices, herb, cleaning products, etc should all be grabbed on this weekly list.

  4. Step 4

Write out a shopping list. Try to group like items together to make your grocery shopping efficient.

  5. Step 5

Clean out the fridge! You're going to need room to put all this food, and it's much easier to do this before your counters are covered with grocery bags. Now you're ready go shopping!

  6. Step 6

Now comes the tricky part, stick to your list! This is very important. As much as possible I try to when I forget something on the list, don't buy it that week. This helps to encourage planning ahead.

  7. Step 7

Put everything away as soon as you get home. You don't want anything to spoil by getting left out.

  8. Step 8

Decide what order you will serve the food in. You don't need to figure this out exactly, but try to eat the fresh food like salads or steaks early in the week, and frozen food such as a frozen turkey or frozen vegetables at the end of the week.

  9. Step 9

Monitor how the week goes. Don't be disappointed if you need to run to the store half way through the week to pick something up.

Tips & Warnings
  • Go shopping alone if you can. Having other people there asking for this or that makes it hard to stick to your list.
  • Go shopping after you've eaten so you're not tempted to buy more food.
