Things You'll Need:
- Your brand of Lotion or Body Cream
- A plastic Shopping Bag, or Plastic Wrap
- A Bath Towel
-
Step 1
Use this remedy when your back is dry and itchy. A lot of swimmers and people who spend time in a pool, ocean or water of any kind experience what is called swimmer's itch. Not only swimmers have itchy dry backs, a lot of others do too. The back is almost impossible to reach without someone's help. You can use this remedy without anyone else.
-
Step 2
If you are using a plastic shopping bag, then cut it so that down each seam at the sides so that it opens out. Depending on your size, either leave it in one large section or scale it down by cutting it in half at the bottom seam.
If you are using plastic wrap, then cut two strips the length of your back, or the area that you want to treat, and tape them together with the seem side facing when you lay it on a flat surface. -
Step 3
Lay the plastic of your choice on a flat surface and spread a layer of your brand of lotion or body cream on the plastic, to cover it.
-
Step 4
Pick up the top ends of the plastic, one between each thumb and finger and flip it around and over your so the the lotion or body cream side meets with the dry, itchy skin on your back. The lotion covered plastic will stick immediately to your back so you may want to do some centering first. If you can's see you may be able to look over one shoulder with your back to a mirror to center the plastic.
-
Step 5
After you have the plastic where you want it, wrap yourself in the bath towel, and sit in a comfortable chair, like a pillow recliner, so the lotion covered plastic is pressed against your back. Sit for at least 10 minutes. The towel around you will stop any staining that the lotion or body cream may cause if it happens to leak from the plastic's edges. You can also lie down on your back on a bed.
-
Step 6
After about 10 minutes, depending on the dryness of your skin, all of the lotion or cream should have been absorbed by your skin. You can test to see if it has by finding a place that you can reach under the plastic. If you are not sure of the amount of lotion or cream that you will need, then spread a thin layer on the plastic for the first treatment and follow the first by a second.
