Things You'll Need:
- Time to study
-
Step 1
I received my licenes back in May 1996. I can rember that day so clearly.
I had studied so hard and when I passed the exam I could not wait to see what callsign I would be given.
Weeks later I recived my callsign KF4JXH.
Determined not to stay a tech forever I began studing for the next step up. That on required that I know morse code. I studied harder than ever on that one. Wasn't long I passed that exam too.
I hurried home to get on the air. I could not wait.
My first 10 meter contact was with a station from Argentina(LW5DMX).
Thats one contact that a operator never forgets.
Several years later and many contacts I became a extra class operator changed my call sign. I now am AG4QL.
Amateur radio is a great hobby.
I encourage you to give it a try.
There is many exciting things that we do.
There is always a local club in your area.
We make contacts to many places around the world even the International space station.
We hold on air nets.
We have contests.
We go on dxpeditions , We have Fieldday events , We have Hamfest.
The list goes on when it comes to activites that we do as amateur radio operators.
So if any of this sounds interesting then give it a try.
It'll be fun. -

on 12/25/2008 My grandfather did HAM radio...I always loved being in his "radio room" with him while he talked on it. I'm glad I have that to remember him by. I really enjoyed this article :).
