Step 1
Take it upon yourself to be more cheery, gracious and polite than any customer you've ever assisted. It becomes a game, and while you mock those who live for holiday seasons, you also provide the best customer service anyone has ever witnessed. This could lead to a holiday bonus, which would help you enjoy anything!

Step 2
Organize a holiday celebration at work--after hours, of course. This does not need to be fancy or extremely detailed. You could pass out invitations to your co-workers to meet at a designated establishment for refreshments and retail horror stories. You could put together a potluck at work. Include all shifts so no one is left out.

Step 3
As a business, adopt a child, grandparent or family in need. Though your hours are long and wicked crazy, you've got it pretty good. As a group you could really do some good for others who struggle. Contact a local shelter or nursing home to find a good fit for you and your co-workers.

Step 4
Rather than be discouraged by your schedule and lack of time off, work with it. Make sure when the family plans their big holiday celebration, they try to work around your schedule. If this is not possible, make plans with your peers who share your shift. Do not forgo celebrating simply because your hours don't match everyone else's. You can also plan to celebrate the holidays early or late. Friends and family would likely enjoy a gift exchange in October before the busy retail season begins. They might also enjoy a get-together after the New Year rings in. Think of the after-holiday sales!

Step 5
Always keep in mind the origin of the holiday. Most of them are not about spending wads of cash or complaining because of work schedules. Holidays are often celebrations of humanity. They are a time to share kind words, random acts of kindness and selfless giving. Remember this, and you will enjoy the holidays when working retail.
