Microsoft PowerPoint is a great tool to use to create presentations, demonstrations and slide shows. The options to creating a customized presentation are endless. One of the features that makes PowerPoint so efficient is the option to use the design templates. There are many to choose from, and they are a quick alternative to creating a presentation from scratch.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open Microsoft PowerPoint by clicking on the "File" option on the top tool bar and choosing the "New" option from the drop down box. Look on the right side of the screen at the design wizard and choose the option "From Design Template" from the list of options. The "Apply a Design Template" box will populate on the right. This box displays a number of different design templates that are available for use for your presentation.

  2. Step 2

Choose the design template you wish to use by clicking on the design. You have the option of adding this design to all of the slides or just the ones that you choose. To apply the design to all of your slides, right click on the design and choose the "Apply to All Slides" option. If you only want the design applied to certain slides, you can add the design one slide at a time by right clicking on the slide and choosing the design. If you apply the design to the whole presentation and wish to remove it from certain slides, you can right click on the specific slide and choose the "Slide Design" option from the drop down menu. You can then click on the "Default Design" option, and it will clear the design from that specific slide.

  3. Step 3

Choose the text layouts you would like for your presentation by picking a design from the wizard. You can also design your own if you wish. You can use a different text layout for each slide or for one style for the whole document. You can also add contents from the "Content Layouts" section of the wizard. You can add graphics, sounds and pictures here to enhance your presentation.

  4. Step 4

Add any text or information that is relevant to your presentation to complete the project. To finish off your project, you can also add slide numbers or footnotes so that those viewing your presentation will be able to follow along more closely. You can also use the design templates for ideas, but create your own designs.
