The Incra router jig comes with preprogrammed templates and positioning racks. No math or measuring are required. Just set the jig to the chosen reference mark and begin cutting. The Incra jig is best known for its box joints, half blind and dovetail creations. The simplicity of the jig means that a simple understanding of the system will enable you to make any project.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Router bit
  • Router bit tool
  • Workpiece
  1. Step 1

Select the stock and router bit for your Incra router jig project. Each project has a different set of dimensions and a specific bit. Use the router bit tool to tighten the bit in place.

  2. Step 2

Use the Incra measuring gauge to set the proper bit height. Once the height is set, set the bit depth.

  3. Step 3

Visualize the center using the micrometer adjustment, then lock the center point in place.

  4. Step 4

Install the correct template for the project you are making. Once the height is adjusted, the depth is set and the center point is locked, you are ready.

  5. Step 5

Secure your workpiece by clamping it to the Incra router jig's right-angle fixture. Use a wood clamp.

  6. Step 6

Shift the auxiliary fence so it sits just behind the router bit. The wood should have a flat left so it connects well to the outfeed side of the fence.

  7. Step 7

Adjust the fence and make sure the right position is under the cursor. Lock the clamp and make your cut. Move the workpiece slowly into the bit.

  8. Step 8

Take off small amounts of wood at a time. Taking off too much can burn your router bit.

  9. Step 9

Make accurate duplicated cuts by using the Incra miter gauge with the Incra stop.

  10. Step 10

Use a push block for guiding wood to cut along edges and for cutting along the grain.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your workpiece isn't thick enough for the router bit depth, make sure your push block is padded so you aren't cutting into it.
  • Watch your fingers when you are making cuts using your Incra router jig. A push block lays on top of your workpiece so your fingers are protected.
