How to Play "Tetris" in the Mac OS X Terminal

You don't need expensive software to play some cool retro games on your Mac. All you need to play a game of Tetris on OS X is the Terminal application.

Instructions

    • 1
      Terminal Applicaion

      Click on the "Applications" icon in the Mac Finder Sidebar in an open Finder window. Double-click on the "Terminal" application to launch it.

      The Emacs Text Editor

      Type "emacs" in a new Terminal application window to enter the "emacs" text editor. Wait a moment for the "emacs" editor to load.

      In the "emacs" text editor, Type "esc" and then Type "X." (Without the quotes)

      Type in the Tetris Command

      Type "tetris" (without the quotes) to launch the Tetris game. Tetris will load in the Terminal window.

      Tetris in Terminal

      Use your arrow keys to control the movement of the falling blocks in the game. Hit the "Esc" key on your keyboard to quit the game.
