How to Add a Crochet Border to a Knit Blanket
Adding a crochet border to a knit blanket is a decorative way to finish a project. This single crochet border, which can be worked in the same color or a contrasting color yarn, is simple enough for a beginner to tackle. The tight, tidy border is most appropriate for projects that need sturdy edging, such as blankets for babies and small children.

1
Lay the knit blanket flat on a table. Starting at the top right corner, loop the edging yarn over the crochet hook, leaving a tail trailing off to the right.
-
2
Push the crochet hook, with the hook facing toward the ceiling, through the front of the first stitch on the corner of the blanket. The hook should emerge on the back of the blanket. Pull the hook, and the loop of edging yarn, through the stitch to create a loop on the hook.

3
Loop the edging yarn over the crochet hook, making two loops on the hook. Pull the first loop through the second loop to create a single crochet stitch.
-
4
Poke the crochet hook through the front of the next stitch on the blanket, working from right to left. The hook should emerge through the back of the blanket. Loop the edging yarn over the hook and pull it through the stitch. There will now be two loops of the edging yarn on the hook. Pull the first loop through the second loop to create a single crochet stitch.

5
Repeat the process until the edging goes all the way around the blanket. After the last crochet stitch, cut off the yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail, and feed it through the loop on the hook, pulling it tight. Weave the tail into the blanket with a tapestry needle.

Tips & Warnings
Try to count the number of crochet stitches on each side of the blanket. If the same number of stitches is used on each side, the border will lay flat and look more even.
